Today Monday 25th of June the students from Rooms 2 and 2a were lucky enough to go to 99 Queen’s Wharf, in Auckland at the waterfront. We went by bus to enjoy the FIFA Under 20 World Cup ‘Fan Zone.’
When we arrived we looked around at all of the activity spaces. Emma said hello to us and we had our group photo taken.
We went into the Digital Zone and took turns to play the ‘Play Station’ soccer game. We held the controller and pushed the buttons to make the players in the team run, kick, throw and score with the ball. There was a blue team and a red team playing against each other.
Next we moved to the skills alley. We had turns of dribbling the ball, zig zagging between them. At the end of the line we turned and did a long kick to pass the ball to the next player. Everyone waited patiently for their turn. The staff membeer encouraged us and offered us advice.
Afterwards we moved into the ‘cube’ where we had our faces painted. We got a soccer ball first, then we could choose some stars, flames, extra soccer balls, or an “NZ” above it!
After that we could have a turn at goal kicking. The machine attached to the net could measure how fast our ball was going when it hit the net! We ran and kicked as far and as hard as we could!
Next we all sat in lines with the other school who was at the Fan Zone and enjoyed watching the special guest performer! Olly did free style soccer tricks. He must have practised a lot. Olly could bounce the ball on his head, neck, hands, feet, knees. Sometimes he even played with the ball and a peaked cap. We laughed and shouted and clapped.
Last of all before we left to go home Olly showed two volunteers a few of his tricks. Jernee became a super soccer star on her first day of school. She learned how to spin a soccer ball on the top of a pen…… Well done!
We had a wonderful time at the FIFA “Fan Zone” – thank you FIFA and Auckland council for our free bus ride and visit. Soon we were back on the bus travelling back down the motorway. We arrived back just in time for lunch break and tell our friends all about our trip.
