Health & Staying Safe

Dental Clinic

Dental Therapists work from the new clinic located behind Puhinui School. Access is via 2C Grayson Avenue, Papatoetoe (down the long driveway and then to the right).  If your child needs treatment, please phone the Dental Clinic at Ph 278 3794 to make an appointment.

Picking Up & Dropping Off

For the safety of our students, parents are asked not to drive into the school grounds but to park on the road. Students are permitted to ride bicycles provided they have parents consent. An approved safety helmet must be worn when riding. The school takes all reasonable precautions but has no responsibility for the security of bicycles.

Illness & Injury

If your child is sick or is injured at school, it is essential that parents are able to be contacted. Please notify the school of any medical conditions that your child may have. The Public Health Nurse visits the school regularly and if you wish to discuss anything with her, please contact the school to make an appointment.

Leaving the School Grounds

Children are not permitted to leave the school grounds without permission. Parents or Guardians wishing to take children out of the school grounds must report to the School Office to arrange collection and be signed out. Children are not permitted to walk home during school hours.

Fire and Earthquake Drills

These are carried out each month.

All medication bought to school by students will be stored in the office or Staff Room, with the exception of asthma medication, which will be stored in the classroom. Children with severe or life-threatening conditions must have an action plan at school and parents need to discuss the child’s condition with the teacher and Deputy Principal. No medication is to be administered at school without written instruction and consultation between parents and the school.
