On Tuesday 25th of March the Arohanui Syndicate were lucky enough to have a rugby skills session which was provided by the Auckland Rugby Union Pro Sport. The children thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon and had lots of fun learning the rugby skills that were taught. Check out the children in action below:
The Barfoot & Thompson Young Authors Challenge is back for another year of great stories, and this year the theme is heroes.
Now in its seventh year, the short story competition gives students the chance to become real-life published authors. All proceeds of the book go the Starship Foundation.
About the short story competition
The Young Authors Challenge is the perfect opportunity for teachers and parents to inspire children (either individually or as a class) and develop their creativity and literacy skills. The competition awards up to eight budding writers, or classroom, with the chance to be published authors in the 2014 Storybook.
Experienced author John Parker will work with the children whose stories are selected, and they’ll have illustrations drawn by real-life heroes, including rugby star Keven Mealamu.
With all the proceeds from the finished book going to the Starship Foundation, the Young Authors Challenge is a celebration of imagination, storytelling, and the magic of reading.

Kia ora, you may have noticed outside Room 7 there are 3 garden boxes that the Arohanui Syndicate have planted with an array of different flowers. We have been looking at Our Gracious God in Religious Education and thought it would be a lovely idea to plant a garden of some of the wonderful gifts God has given us to enjoy. Each class was responsible for an area in the boxes and came up with some lovely arrangements of the flowers to represent God’s love. The children will be looking after the boxes throughout the year.
