Reading is an enjoyable activity, as well as a useful skill. To encourage your recreational reading you will be required to undertake a Reading degree over Term Two.
You will need to read books during this time. A record of what you have read each night (book/author/chapter) needs to be recorded each day for homework with a summary (15 words or less) of what you have read. Your parents will need to sign each entry to verify that you have read what you have recorded.
At the end of each book, you need to do one of the activities for each section. You are not allowed to do one activity (e.g Character Draw) for more than one book. Once this is finished you need to record this in this booklet. You then show the book and the activity to your teacher to be signed.
Your teacher will sign this if they are satisfied with the quality of your work and the evidence that it has been read. The work should be presentable and be able to be displayed on a classroom wall. It can be done electronically on Google Docs/Slides or handwritten and presented in a folder.
If a book is 400 or more pages long, then it can count as two books. If 600 or more then it can count as three books (check with your teacher if you are unsure). If your book does count as 2 books then you must complete two of the required activities for that book. Books should have some equivalence to your current Reading Level.
All Bachelor’s Degrees (First Degree) must include:
- 1 comic
- 2 sophisticated picture books
- A picture book
- A chapter book
The other degrees should be chapter books.
Push yourself to achieve the highest degree.
Make sure you look at the Google Slides and put your activities in the grids.
