VALUE: Respect CONTEXT: Sun Smart
We are learning to describe and demonstrate simple health care and safety procedures. During this unit of work:
- We will share our ideas on how people protect themselves from the sun
- We will say the “Slip, Slop, Slap poem”
- We should design and make an effective sun hat (with Mrs Massey during technology classes)
Friends and family please practise saying these rhymes with us and talk to us about how we are Sunsmart in our family/whanau. What do we take to the beach, pool, park or sports to keep us safe in the sun?
Play your best in the summer sun
You gotta play it cool from eleven to four
To be safe from heat you gotta slip into shade
A shirt, a lotion, a hat will be cool
Have a nap, have a kit kat but its better indoors
Use your common sense when it comes to play
Cover up, keep it cool, keep outta the heat
You gotta slip on a shirt
Slop on a lotion
Slap on a hat
Will keep the sun away.
Everyone, every where’s covered with skin
The stuff that keeps the rest of you in
Skin can be white, brown or black
Skin can be spotty, freckled or slack
Skin can be hairy or bald as a bean
When it gets dirty its easy to clean
Isn’t it lucky we are covered with skin?
The stuff that keeps the rest of us in!
Here is a lovely song we have learned. We sing it to the tune of ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat.’ Can you please sing it with me?
Bright sun, shining down
Shining on the ground
What a lovely face you have
Yellow, big and round!
Can our family/whanau talk together about how we say Sunsmart? At the beach, pool, park and the sports ground, do we slip, slop, slap and wrap? Please stay safe in the sun this summer.
