Duffy Assembly

2 September 2019 · by sjacob4a

We started Book Week with an amazing assembly. We were excited to invite illustrator Michel Mulipola to show his work with us. We learned that he has had some great jobs including designing cartoon cards for Marvel! He is also a successful gamer and wrestler. We loved hearing about his passion and ambitions as a child to be a comic book illustrator and how reading helped him in all of his jobs. Here are some photos from his talk this morning. You may notice that he has illustrated some of the books we read in school! When it was question time we asked Michel questions like

“What is your favourite Spiderman character?” “What are the challenges of being an illustrator?” “What would your job be, if you weren’t an illustrator?”

We learnt so much!

Aroha Syndicate-Welcome back to 2019!

12 February 2019 · by sjacob4a

Kia ora, Talofa Lava, Malo e lelei, Kia orana, Namaste and welcome to Aroha Syndicate 2019.

We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to working with you to help your child grow, achieve their potential and flourish at school.

Here are the teachers of the Aroha Syndicate for 2019.

Mrs Lucre (Syndicate Leader) is teaching in Room 9

Mrs Pancha is teaching in Room 10

Mrs Jacob is teaching in Room 4a

As we begin a new term- a few helpful reminders….

  •  Tamariki are to wear sunhats each day in Term 1
  • Each child has brought or will soon be bringing home a letter about how to sign up for the Seesaw app for their new class. Please sign up to see your child’s work, class messages and as one way to communicate easily with your child’s teacher . (Several family members can sign up to your child’s online journal)
  • Children will be bringing home reading books. We encourage tamariki to read each day at home, for around 5 or 10 minutes to consolidate what they have learned in class that day

Our children are learning all about having a Positive Mindset this year or a ‘can do’ attitude. We encourage children to be positive towards one another in their learning. As teachers, we praise ideas and contributions that see children taking a risk and trying something new in their learning. We see mistakes as a way to learn and try something new. As a year 1 team, we work hard to build this positive learning foundation to set children up well for the rest of their school learning and beyond.
