Toi Matariki-Year 3 Tumanako

7 June 2016 · by Mr Norman

This term the Year 3 children in the Tumanako area will be attending a workshop that is on offer at the VODAFONE EVENTS CENTRE as part of their learning about the Arts and also for Matariki celebrations.

The workshop is called: Toi Matariki

“The Toi Matariki workshop provides opportunities for students to experience the traditional Maori art forms of raranga (weaving), kotuhi (stone painting) and uku (clay work). Experienced in the light of storytelling myths and legends, the workshops are delivered from a Maori art perspective by the senior artists who support the creation of a narrative for their toi (art) production. This highly engaging and fun exercise also stresses the role of nature in society and the importance of taking care of the environment”

The children will need to make sure that they bring their P.E gear so that they can participate in the workshop.

Date: Thursday 30th June 2016

Cost of the trip: $ 5

Leaving school: 9 approx. and returning around 12.30pm

Miss Lord, Miss Damons and Mrs Ryan will be taking the Year 3 children on this trip and the Year 4 children will remain at school with Mrs Gass and Mr Norman.

Dancing with Mythology-Year 4 Tumanako

7 June 2016 · by Mr Norman

This term the Year 4 children in the Tumanako area will be attending a workshop that is on offer at the VODAFONE EVENTS CENTRE as part of their learning about the Arts and also for Matariki celebrations.

The workshop is called: Dancing with Mythology.

“Dancing with Mythology is the half day workshop programme introducing

students to basic choreographic processes that explore telling a story through dance and movement. It derives inspiration from Pou Kapua or Cloud Pillar, the centre’s stunning 21 metre carving which narrates Māori mythology and the creation stories of Ranginui and Papatuanuku.”

The children will need to make sure that they bring their P.E gear so that they can participate in the workshop.

 Date: Wednesday 22nd June 2016

Cost of the trip: $ 5

Leaving school: 9 approx and returning around 12.30pm

Mr Norman and Mrs Gass will be taking the Year 4 children on this trip. The Year 3 children will remain behind with Miss Lord and Miss Damons. Their trip will be on the 30th June 2016.
