Arohanui syndicate had the opportunity to venture to Cambridge Terrace to learn more about Papatoetoe’s contribution to World War 1 at the Papatoetoe Museum and ANZAC Day. The museum is run by volunteers who know a lot about Papatoetoe’s rich history, Jenny Clarke showed us the route taken to Gallipoli from New Zealand and she talked about some of the key points of interest around Papatoetoe memorialising the people who served Aotearoa during the wars.
We made some poppies, we looked at relics from the war like uniforms, medals, post cards, biscuits and so on. The museum is full of interesting things from olden days. Before leaving we laid poppies on crosses, we thought about service to others and we said a prayer for all those who made great sacrifices for all New Zealanders.
