Our whānau day held once a term is a wonderful time and initiative that supports our Māori children at Holy Cross Catholic School. Our hope is to build a partnership based on understanding and respect between teachers, parents, whānau, hapū, and iwi that will support all Māori students to achieve success as Māori. Strengthening the self-identity and self-esteem of students who may need additional support to learn is a central theme that we are exploring this year through pepeha.
In addition to pepeha we will look at pūrakau, waiata and other elements for a particular tribal area. We have started in the far north with the iwi of Te Aupōuri, attached are some of the resources that we used to deliver this lovely learning experience for our students however you may wish to join our facebook page Te Kura o Ripeka Tapu Whānau Whanui Rōpū to see more.
We need your help, attendance and input to these whānau days and meetings to further expose our students, your children to new and more exciting opportunities. Please contact Gemma or Whāea Bronwyn for information.
