This morning Fr Bill visited the Tumanako syndicate and talked to us about his heroes, Curly Blyth who is the oldest soldier and his dad Robert Smith Fletcher. Firstly he said to us, ‘do you have a hero?’ and we all told him who our heroes were.
Curly Blyth and Robert Fletcher met in Germany during WWII where they were both fighting for New Zealand against the Germans. They both went to Egypt for training and Curly had the record of having no soldiers die during training.
Fr Bill showed us photos of Curly and his father, Robert when they were soldiers. We learnt from Curly that the wars times were hard and sometimes it was stressful. They had to listen to the person in charge and it was hard because that was how some of the soldiers got killed.
