On Wednesday 1st March we had a special Liturgy with the Year 1-4 classes. We went to the Church to sing and pray. The teachers put an ash cross on our forehead.
The ash was made from the palm leaves kept from last year’s Palm Sunday service. We walked sensibly to the front of the Church in lines. The teacher said, “Turn away from sin and stay faithful to the gospel.” And then we said, “AMEN!”
Each class had a Lenten Promise to read out to everyone. We promised to be “Caretakers of God’s creation by picking up rubbish every day!” We now have it displayed in our classroom on the wall.
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. Lent is the 40 days before Easter where we prepare our hearts for this holy time. We try to be more like Jesus, thinking of others and being kind and loving.
