This term there will be lots of exiting learning happening in the Aroha Syndicate. We are learning how to be ‘sunsmart’, about large zoo animals and about Advent and Christmas.
Our ‘umbrella’ topic for this term is Transformation as the time of year changes from Ordinary Time, to Advent and then Christmas in our Catholic Calendar.
Here are our learning outcomes for the first six weeks of term. We sent home a paper copy of these outcomes last week in the children’s book bags.

Children can solve addition and subtraction problems by counting on or back from the highest number e.g.
11 + 4 …12,13,14,15 45+ 3… 46,47,48 67-5..66,65,64,63,62 e.g 10+4=14 7+5=12 15+5=20 2+7=9 e.g. What number comes before 40? What number comes after 40? |
Children can write a description with an introductory sentence and personal comment at the end.
E.g. The sun is a bright star that shines during the day. It is burning hot. It is looks like a big yellow ball. It is high up in the sky. The sun helps the plants to grow and gives us light. Children can answer questions about the stories they are reading using: who, when, where, what, why and how. Children can segment all the sounds in 4 sound words e.g. Sun – s-u-n Tiger – t-i-g-er |
Children can name three ways to protect themselves from the sun.
e.g wear a sunhat, wear sunscreen, cover up, wear sun glasses e.g keeps us hydrated, helps our brain to work, gives us energy |
Children can roll and trap a small ball Children can throw and catch an underarm throw using a small ball. |
