Greetings Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome to a new term. Hope you have had a restful time with your children and they are ready for this new term ahead. This term we have Holy Cross week in September, this is when we celebrate the school’s feast day. We also have the Olympic Games starting in the weekend and we will be looking at these games very closely.

CHURCH– COMMUNITY OF DISCIPLES, TE WHANAU A TE KARAITI; gathering, celebrating, living God’s presence / LITURGICAL YEAR– THE ASSUMPTION; August 15th / SACRAMENT– HAKARAMETA STRAND; Welcome. HOLY CROSS WEEK- September 12th- 16th/ MERCY CHARISM- September 24th.
LITERACY
WRITING: EXPRESSIVE- Recounts of holidays, weekends and significant events in our school and syndicate. POETIC- Poem writing, prayers, letters; formal/ informal. TRANSACTIONAL- facts and information about a role model, the Olympics, Caring for our body.
READING: Children are reading at their ability level and are given opportunities to read a variety of genre. The children are encouraged to increase their reading mileage with daily home readers. Children need to bring a book bag very day otherwise they can’t take home a reader.
SPELLING: Your child will be bringing home their spelling words every Monday. They are to learn these during the week in preparation for their spelling test on Friday.
TOPIC STUDY:
SOCIAL SCIENCE: OLYMPIC GAMES- ROLE MODELS PAST AND PRESENT. Children will be focusing on a current athlete that they see as a ‘Role Model’. They will also look at our former athletes, preferably in the same sport of their chosen athlete, and compare them by looking at similarities and differences that they have had to endure.
SCIENCE: KITE MAKING- Nature of Science- Children will ask questions about our world that lead to investigations and extend their experiences and personal explanations of the world through exploration, play, asking questions, and discussing simple models.
HEALTH: CARING FOR OUR BODY- BASIC HYGIENE. Children will learn how to wash their hands properly and how to keep themselves healthy by caring for their body.
