On Friday we took some to of the beans Mrs de Koning brought to school and we prepared them for sprouting. Mrs Diana took one group of children for the activity and Mrs de Koning worked with the rest of the class.
First we teased out a cotton wool ball. They are white and soft and absorbent. That means they can hold a lot of water. Then we put it onto a plastic container.
After that we all got several beans each to place on top of the cotton wool balls inside the plastic container.
We are excited to see the changes that will have happened over the weekend. Will the beans look the same? Will they feel the same?
Lastly we put the lid on top of the container to keep in the moisture. The water cannot evaporate. We put it onto the shelf near the window so they will be warm and in a light place. We remembered that plants need 5 things – soil (we used cotton), water, sun, air and space.
here is a fun song we have been singing at school to remind us!!
See if you can sing along…..
