Mrs de Koning brought a variety of seeds to school for us to look at and feel.
Some were small and some were big. They were different colours and shapes too. Different seeds grow into different plants.
Some of the very small seeds can grow into big vegetable plants. We talked about how the seeds would grow. The roots would be growing down into the soil to look for water and nutrients. The shoots grow up into the light where they grow leaves which can make food for the plants. The leaves are green because they are making the food from the sunlight.
Here are some pictures of the other seeds. They were bought at the shops in colourful envelopes. They show a picture of the plant that the seeds will grown in to. They have information on the back of the envelope. It says when during the year we can plant them. It says how to plant them. It says how long before the plants will be ready to eat.
This sort of seeds can be bought at the supermarket, The Warehouse or at garden centres!
