At the moment in Mathematics we are learning about measurement with unconventional units. We can use blocks, sticks, small toys or any same sized objects to measure the length or width of an object.
We learned four rules to help us measure correctly.
- Start right at the end – usually the bottom or the top.
- Lay the measuring units in a straight line.
- Make sure the ends of the objects touch each other.
- Count the number of measuring units carefully and accurately.
Mrs B took a group to start measuring too. Here they are using different materials to measure with. Look at the interesting things they are measuring.
Tomorrow we will go outside and measure some of the things in the playground. We are getting very good at measuring! Please let me try some at home too!
