Over the last two weeks we have been thinking about teen numbers. We have looked carefully at the numbers between ten and twenty.
We have counted from 10 to 20, made the sets of 10 to 20 and used finger patterns with a buddy to make the sets of teen numbers with our hands. We love the cooperation needed in this activity.
Mrs O’Grady had her group hold on to cards with the numbers 10-20 written on them. They ordered them correctly and called them out in that order!
It can sometimes take a lot of practice to really understand teen numbers. Place value is very important. Mrs de Koning’s group drew place value houses on the concrete with chalk and the children put their sets of teen numbers into the room for tens and room for ones. Then they wrote the number underneath it.
Here is a fun rap about understanding teen numbers.
