We enjoyed looking at the types of food Jesus may have eaten.
First we talked about how Mary and the other women of Jesus’ time made flour to turn into bread. They did not buy it from the shop! They took grain and pounded it into flour. We did the same with corn and then barley.
We used Mrs de Koning’s pestle and mortar. We sang the song – crush, crush, crush the grain as we took turns to make the grain into flour. The longer we pounded it to crush the grain, the smoother it was.
Next we tried hummus on flat bread. It was creamy and smooth. The flat bread can be used for wraps too.
Later we tried some fruit and nuts. The fruit was dried to preserve it. The sun was very hot where Jesus lived and they could lay the fruit out in the sun to dehydrate.
We enjoyed the little samples of food. Most of us were very courageous and tried everything. We decided that Jesus ate healthy food – as we try to!
