Over the next two weeks, in conjunction with BOOK WEEK the Harinui Syndicate will be looking at the sort of things which make a healthy lunch.
The focus book for BOOK WEEK is an adult recipe book called ‘My Family Table’ written by Eleanor Ozich. It is full of interesting and healthy whole food recipes.
One of the things we are learning is that home made is often the best for us and that bought food are regularly very processed and full of hidden fat, sugar and salt! It also may have had all fibre (which is very important in our diet) removed too.
The first thing we did was discuss what we would find in a healthy lunch. Then we all went to get our lunch boxes, opened them and showed our class buddy all the healthy items we had inside!
Mrs de Koning took photos of us with our lunch boxes. She was very happy with how many very healthy and home made things she saw in our lunch boxes. We are pleased that many of us had sandwiches made specially for us by Mum or Dad or our caregiver!
Our Mums and Dads want us to be healthy, so they give us healthy food. Good food gives us energy to last the day at school. We work hard and play well at school – every day!
We love to eat a healthy lunch! It is good for us!
