On Friday we read the story of the gospel reading. In the Bible story we heard about two of the times Jesus appeared to his disciples after his resurrection. Jesus was alive, not dead and he wanted to show his disciples that what he had told them had come true.
The first story told about the disciples being in a room together sharing a meal. They were very scared and locked the door. Suddenly they realised that Jesus was among them. He showed them his hands and feet with the nail holes in them. They were so happy to see that their Lord and Saviour was alive again!
Next we heard the story of the disciples fishing. They fished all night but did not catch anything. It was very early in the morning. The sun was just rising. Suddenly they saw a man on the shore. He told them to throw the net onto the other side of the boat. Then the net was so full of fish they could not pull it into the boat.
Then Peter knew that the man on the beach was Jesus. He jumped into the water and swam to the shore. The others followed in the boat. Jesus had a small fire made on the beach and by it were fish and some bread. They shared breakfast together!
Jesus asked Peter three times if he loved him. Three times Peter said yes! (Just as before Jesus death Peter had denied him three times!)
Jesus asked Peter to look after his sheep. He meant that he wanted Peter to teach and look after his followers.
We enjoyed listening to the story from the children’s Bible and then acting it out afterwards. It helps us to remember the things that happened in the story and understand the meaning too.
