As part of our strand maths we thought about patterns. We have been thinking about pet care and Mrs Green had a wonderful idea!
She said to us, “How about I make some special bone cookies for you to decorate?”
We all said, “YES!”
First we talked about the different patterns we knew of: spots and dots, stripes, checks, flowers (floral), shapes, plain colours and a couple more!!
Then we designed our pattern on a paper bone shape using our sketching pencils.
Next we helped to mix up some icing. We used icing sugar, water and food colouring. We had to add the liquid a little at a time so that the icing would go on smoothly, but not be too runny. We needed our patterning decorations to stick to it, and for the icing to dry out before we ate the cookies.
We all got a bone cookie to decorate and some decorations to arrange in a pattern. We had coconut, choc chips, choc drops, sprinkles, rainbow hail, hundreds and thousands, marshmallows and some icing pens to add stripes with.
We enjoyed sharing our ideas with each other and trying to make the patterns on our cookies that we had sketched on our cookie plan!
We waited till the end of school to eat our cookies. Mrs de Koning suggested we sit in the sun outside and enjoyed our cookies. We did not have to worry about any crumbs!! Yippee….we had waited a long time. They looked good and tasted great!
