Because we have been studying care of pets, especially cats, dogs and birds, we have been reading lots of stories about cats.
At the end of last year Mrs Green gave Mrs O’Grady and Mrs de Koning a gift of a Pete the Cat book each. They are our favourites. We can hear the stories read on YouTube or listen to our teachers read them. We really like to join in parts of the books ourselves. We looked carefully at the pictures of Pete the Cat.
Mrs de Koning and Mrs Green put out all the things we would need. Paper plates, scissors, coloured card and PVA glue too!
After we looked at the big picture of Pete the Cat on the ActivBoard, and talked about the picture of a cat mask and the shapes we saw on it, everyone started to make their own mask. Some of us are good at using the scissors to cut lines and shapes, and some of us need a lot more practise!! But we all had fun and glued the two ears, nose adn whiskers onto the mask. Mrs Green and Mrs de Koning cut out the two eye holes as they were very tricky!
Next week we will add on a large iceblock stick to the bottom of the mask to hold on to. On Monday we will role play with the cat masks and move adn sound like cats. We might even retell a cat story. Then on Tuesday Mrs Green is bringing her camera and photographing us as cats in our masks as we hid in the bushes and shrubs around the grotto. We might make a wall story or big book out of these pictures!!
