Yesterday, Wednesday 17th February the Harinui Syndicate had a visit from two puppies. They came into the classroom just after lunch and stayed for about 30 minutes.
The puppies are about 8 weeks old, so they are still very young. Soon they will be going to new owners, who will love and care for them!
Some of us enjoyed holding and patting the puppies, but some of us were not so sure. So we sat on chairs which made us feel safe.
The puppies had fun too! They ran, and played and wrestled with each other. We really enjoyed watching them and spending time with them.
We asked a lot of questions and found out about the puppies. It is very important to make sure you can care for a puppy before you buy one. You need to know how big he will grow. You need to be able to buy the puppy food, toys, bedding, a leash, a kennel and be able to take it to the vet if it is sick. They need enough space to run around outside too.
The puppies have special food, like little biscuits which give them all the vitamins and minerals they need to grow up big and strong. They need to have this to have healthy bones, teeth and skin. Another thing you should remember is that all animals need to be able to get to clean fresh water to drink.
You need to be very gentle with animals, being quiet and sensible around them and handle them gently. You should use a kind voice and make sure that you meet all their needs as they are relying on you!
Remember that puppies need to have vaccinations as they grow up to keep them safe from diseases. This is an injection just like we get sometimes.
Also any time they seem unwell they need to go to the vet, just like we have to go to the doctor. They may even get medicine that you need to give them regularly until they are well. Would you like to have a puppy for a pet?
