Today Thursday 18th February the Harinui Syndicate went to Animates Pet Store to look at the animals and learn about choosing and caring for them.
First Mrs O’Grady took 1/2 of the syndicate to the store in the school van with Mrs B. They went in and looked around. They met Jess, who works at Animates and knows a lot about buying and caring for pets.
Mrs O’Grady’s friend brought her dog Harlequin to the store to have a warm, soapy wash. The students were allowed into the room to watch his bathe up close and personal! We stood behind the safety fence to watch.
We saw lots of special things you can buy for your pet to eat, play with, sleep in and even clothes for pets to wear! We saw the guinea pig cages which had a safe lace for them to hide, food (dry food and vegetables) and water and sawdust on the bottom of the cage.
We learned to hold and care for the pets in the store. We saw puppies, kittens, guinea pigs, lizards, turtles and fish.
We talked about which pet we would like and what we would call them. Some of us hope our parents will bring us back to look again.
Then we went back to school in the van so the next group could have their visit.
