On Thursday 11th February the students of Harinui Syndicate walked to the Papatoetoe Library. We prepared for the trip by talking about where we were going and what we might see. We talked about the things we wanted to learn at the library too.
Everyone put on a fluro vest and their name tag to be safe on the trip. we had our hats on and our best manners ready for use!
We arrived at the library and walked in. The librarians met us and welcomed us. Everyone sat in the children’s area of the library and waited politely.
The two librarians talked to us about themselves and their roles in the library. They shared information about the different resources and activities in the library. We learned about the different areas and equipment in the library too!
There are many special areas in the library. Different librarians take turns at doing a variety of jobs. They like to help people in the library find the information they need.
There are a lot of different activities which are held in the library. Some for children and some for adults.
We enjoyed reading some of the books together. Mrs O’Grady took some out for us to read at school and at home. Her special book was called, ‘If You Give a Pig a Pancake’ she is going to read it to us in class!
We hope we can all join the library and have our own cards. Our parent or caregiver needs to come with us and show photo ID, like a driver’s licence and something to show where we live, like a phone or power bill. You can even start the process on the library website on line!
