This term we are beginning a new and interesting activity based reading programme. “Daily 5” is learning reading through Reading and Writing. It suits our innovative learning space and our students needs very well. It is organised each day with – Read to self, read to someone, listen to reading, word work and work on writing. The children move through the activities with growing independence. Each child reads to a teacher one on one each day. The groupings are of mixed ability and the children read to the teacher at their own appropriate learning level.
The photo montage shows some examples of work on writing each child did in their group of 6 or 7 today with Mrs de Koning.
Working on whiteboards they chose a topic and wrote straight away, wrote the whole time, worked quietly and later they will aim to build skills at underlining words they are not sure of and gaining stamina in writing.
Each day the children will bring home the book they read to the teacher, so they can read it to and with you. Fridays they will bring home a poem in their scrapbook and will bring home theri RE scrapbook to read at least once a week too. Please return book bags, readers and scrapbooks the next day.
