Today, Thursday 13th August the students of Rooms 2 and 2a practised the road safety rules that we had learned from Ronald McDonald on Monday.
First the senior girls who do road patrol came into Room 2 and answered our questions about their responsibilities when at the pedestrian crossing.
Then we lined up and walked to the front of the school and along the footpath towards the pedestrian crossing.
We saw the very busy road and heard the cars, buses and trucks driving by.
Mrs O’Grady walked over the crossing with two children. She was wearing her high viz vest. Can you read the words on the back of it? Mrs O’grady held the children’s hands to keep them safe.
Next we took turns to cross the road in groups of six. Mrs O;Grady looked after us when we had walked across and Mrs de Koning sent us across in our groups. Lily’s Mum watched us and helped look after us too. She talked with us about what we were doing and how to safely cross the road!
We saw some grown ups crossing the road at the crossing. It is safer for them to use a pedestrian crossing too.
We walked over the road and back twice. We would like to be on road patrol one day!
Yes, we learned a lot and had a great time.
