In Room 2a we have a letter of the week which we learn all about and practise writing. It is important to know the name of each letter and the sound that it makes. We can also say the names of things that begin with that letter. Sometimes we even know the names of people which start with that letter!
Each day we talk about these things, look at an ABC phonics video on the ActivBoard and then write the letter. Usually we focus on the lower case letter. This term we have studied the letters c, o, a and g. They are all formed the same way starting with the ‘caterpillar c’ shape. If we start in the right place and go in the right direction then usually our letter looks great!
One day we will write the letter in the air, another write on the whiteboards. Another day we might write on bright paper with felt tips, or on the pavement with big chalk. Occasionally we will draw on a worksheet which helps us with pencil grip and fine motor control needed to daraw lines, curves, stars, dots or circles. They go into our scrapbook so we can take them home to share.
Here are some examples of our work.
Here is a YouTube clip that we often sing along to in class. Itt helps us learn the letter sounds which are important for reading and writing words.
