We love to do Maths together in our groups. One group works with Mrs de Koning having instruction time and the other works independently practising the things they have learned.
This day one group was doing number flashes with the Tens Frames. It is important we instantly recognise first the patterns to 5 and then the patterns to 10 when we see them. We are learning to do this not only with Tens frames but also with Finger Flashes.
We ran through the rules of the game with Mrs de Koning, looked at what the patterns looked like and then went off to practise with a buddy. We like our zip bags of brightly coloured Tens frames.
The other group were using iceblock sticks to make teen numbers. We are learning about the Place Value System. We practised counting out a teen number in sticks and then bundling one whole group of ten together.
Each teen number has one bundle of ten and then some ones too. We need a lot of practise at this so we are very fast and very accurate!
