Here is a recording of The Matariki Song we are learning.
We have listened to songs about Matariki, sung songs, watched Maori Legends about matariki on You Tube, played Maori String Games, and done a Maori Jump Jam song called “Kotahitanga.”
On Friday we plan to make kites adsn have a small feast in class, (some hot chips to go with the lunch Mum and Dad have sent us to school with.)
Matariki is fun. A time to sing, talk about the people we have loved, play games, do Kapa Haka, eat delicious food, look at the stars and think about new beginnings. It is the Maori ‘New Year’ and we are enjoying it!
