Today, Thursday 23rd April Room 2 and Room 2a went for a walk to visit Burnside Park.
Artist Cristina Beth sent out kitsets of the poppies which have been made by groups of volunteers. It takes about 7 minutes to make each poppy. She says the hardest part is sewing on the button for the centre of the flower.
The idea is to meet in groups to do the work and talk about their history – did they have a family member serving in the war? Maybe a grandfather or uncle?
Men went to World War 1 to fight for peace and Cristina thinks people need to be reminded of this.
Local Returned and Services Associations are also making crosses to go alongside them.
We stayed at the park for a while and then walked back to school.
