On Thursday 26th March, during the afternoon Room 2 and 2a made sandwiches with the things they had bought at New World!
We arranged all our ingredients in Room 2.
Cheese (tasty) and Nutella (sweet)
Lettuce (crisp) and tomatoes (juicy)
Bananas (soft) and carrots (crunchy)
Mrs O’Grady talked about all the ingredients. She asked us what we knew about them
Mrs O’Grady opened the packages which protected the food
The wholegrain bread had little seeds in it
All our fillings are fresh and healthy
Look at our sandwich cutters. If things look good, they taste good too!
We chose a healthy bread to make our sandwiches with
We had three loaves of bread to share
Everyone listened carefully to the teachers and waited patiently for their turn
Our bread was soft and moist
We each took turns at making a sandwich with two slices of bread and our choice of fillings. Some of us used two separate toppings and had two open sandwiches.
There were four places to make sandwiches, on two different tables. Mrs de Koning supervised one and Mrs O’Grady the other!
And here are my two dinosaur sandwiches. Two shapes in the Nutella sandwich and two shapes in the cheese sandwich
I am pressing down the cutter carefully but firmly
Slow and carefully I go side to side with the knife
I am thinking about which things to put on my bread…MMmmmm!
Using the dinosaur cutter to make an interesting shape
I am so proud of myself…look what I can do…
Can you see the crusts that were cut off my heart sandwich? Mrs de Koning took them home and fed them to her chickens!
I am cutting heart shapes into my sandwich
I like the butterfly shape!
My sandwich looks YUM!
Now I am using the sandwich cutter to make my Nutella sandwich into a butterfly
We went right to the edges of the bread
Using the knives was a bit tricky
Spreading the margarine took concentration
It was a very special afternoon making our sandwiches. Mrs O’Grady is going to make some shape sandwiches with her grandsons in the holiday! She thinks they will enjoy it as much as we did…
Maybe we can help you to make our healthy sandwiches for our school lunches Mum and Dad/Caregiver and big brothers and sisters. It tastes twice as nice when we make them ourselves!
Ask us all about how we made the sandwiches and which steps we took. We should be able to tell you in the correct sequence, naming all the ingredients and utensils we used as well!
