On Thursday 12th March Room 2 and Room 2a went for a visit in the school vans. Thank you to the parents who came along to help!
After morning tea we went for a walk up the paths and some people played chase and tiggy. Over the little bridge we went and up hill past the chicken coop.
Mrs de Koning gave us some bread and a small handful of chicken pellets each, so we could feed the chickens. Some were too shy to come onto the grass. they hid in the trees below the chicken coop.
Then we went in small groups of 4 or 5 to look in the chicken run and the nesting boxes. We found there were 4 eggs there. Two were small and white from the Bantams and two were large and brown from the Brown Shavers.
Last of all Mrs de Koning brought up one of her chickens for us to stroke. Everyone was very gentle and ran their hands down the chicken’s back from it’s head to it’s tail.

Everyone stroked and patted the hen. At last she was tired of it and Mrs de Koning put her down so she could run away!
It was a lovely sunny day and we all had lots of fun. Soon we were back in the vans, sitting safely on our booster seats, and clicked into our seat belts. We like to go on trips outside of school. We talked and talked and wrote some fantastic stories back in class too. Ask us all about it!
