Dear Parents,
Congratulations to Malili Pitovao R20 who received the Catholic Character Award this week.
Jesus talked in the Gospel about nations rising up against nations. There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, plagues and awesome and mighty sights that will come from the sky. These are pretty terrifying thoughts if you think about them, but these readings are full of hope not doom or fear. Jesus himself says, “Do not be terrified because among all the frightening things, good things will also happen.” This theme of celebration is picked up in the psalm which was composed for the coronation of the King. Look upon the final judgement as a manifestation of the reign of God over all creation.
“The Lord comes to rule the Earth with justice.”
The followers of Jesus Christ look forward with hope to the end of time, a time of resurrection of the dead and life everlasting.
Enrolments for 2015
Due to some parents leaving enrolments at Holy Cross until the last minute, a number of children will miss out on attending here in 2015. We accept enrolments when children turn three years old and it is imperative that you enrol your child when this date arrives. We only have a limited number of spaces due to the Government putting a maximum roll on our school. Once we reach this number we cannot take any more children whether they are siblings or new families wishing to attend Holy Cross. If you are leaving Holy Cross at the end of this year, would you please let us know as soon as possible as we have a waiting list of children who want to take these places. Please do not leave it until the last minute to inform us as this is unfair on the families who are waiting.
Intermediate Water Polo
Our Intermediate Water Polo Team came first in the recent water polo tournament. Congratulations to the team!
Year 7 Camp
Last week our Year 7 girls attended the annual camp at Camp Adair. I would like to congratulate all the girls on the effort they made to participate and complete the challenges they faced. This was a fantastic group of girls who worked well together, not only supporting each other but also in their attitude with to the tasks at hand. I was impressed with many children who overcame their fears and achieved their own personal goals. A special thank you to the parents who came along, Joseph Tafau and Jane Peyroux-Bob. and to Ms Kyd and Ms Hann who also participated in this very successful activity.
Attendance Dues
Every week I seem to be writing about Attendance Dues. The Catholic Administration Board have contacted me and expressed concern about the number of families who have not paid Attendance Dues this year. Once again I would like to remind families who have not paid that when you enrolled your child at Holy Cross School you agreed to pay this money each term as a condition of entry into the school. As you have seen in many previous newsletters, if you are having trouble paying this money, I am willing to meet with you to find a way to meet this commitment to the school and the Auckland Diocese. It is only approximately $8 per week per child and I feel that all families can make an effort to pay this amount. We would appreciate an effort being made to pay Attendance Dues by 5 December 2014.
PACT Chess Tournament
The Holy Cross Chess Teams competed in the Papatoetoe Inter School Chess Tournament at PACT. They were placed second. I would like to congratulate Katherine Brzozowski who won all of her 6 games.
Head Lice (Nits)
Head lice is an ongoing problem at Holy Cross School as in many other schools at present. We urge all parents/caregivers to treat their children for head lice. Unless we all work together it is impossible to make Holy Cross School free of this concern. We would appreciate your support in this matter. Thank you.

Lord, You know that I am growing older.
Keep me from becoming talkative and possessed
with the idea that I must express myself
on every subject.
Release me from the craving to straighten out
everyone’s affairs.
Keep me from the recital of endless detail.
Give me wings to get to the point.
Seal my lips when I am inclined to tell of my
aches and pains. They are increasing with
the years and my love to speak of them
grows sweeter as time goes by.
Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally
I may be wrong.
Make me thoughtful but not nosey;
helpful but not bossy.
With my vast store of wisdom and experience it
does seem a pity not to use it all. But You know,
Lord, I want a few friends at the end.
