The Manaakitanga, Atawhai, Tumanako and Te Matauranga syndicates have been fortunate to have had cricket lessons over the first four weeks thanks to the Papatoetoe Cricket Club. They have also been giving skills sessions to our Year 5 and 6 cricket teams.
Our Year 5 boys (and 1 girl) competed in the last week of term at the Hooked on Cricket tournament, run by the New Zealand Community Trust. Unfortunately they lost the first game with Yendarra but regrouped to beat Dawson Road and then Papatoetoe South in the Plate final.
The Quickhit Girls’ Tournament produced great results for our 3 girls’ teams. The Year 4 team and year 5 team were victorious in their finals with the Year 6 team losing a tight final by 1 run.
Our year 6 boys are preparing for the Auckland Champs. We have participated at this tournament every year since its inception 4 years ago. Last year was our most successful coming 3rd. We hope to do 2 better this year.
Friday afternoon cricket was postponed from starting from last week to this Friday. Interset means that we could field 5 8-side teams of boys and girls. Unfortunately the organisers only want 2 teams but hopefully we can try to get in 4 teams to harness the growing interest of our students.
